The Adoption Process

The Approval Process

If you would like to adopt one of our pets, the first step is the submission of our online application. Once submitted, an adoption coordinator to start the approval process. The time frame from application to approval typically ranges between 48 to 96 hours depending on your responsiveness along with your references.

After you complete an application, there are several things that we will do:

  • We will check your personal references. Please be sure to list two personal references and include a phone number and an email address. References MUST BE a non-family member, not living with you.
  • If you do not own your place of residence, we will call your landlord or leasing office.   Please check with them first to learn about their pet policy.
  • We will call your veterinarian for a reference.  We are looking for a history of annual exams, vaccines maintained routinely, annual heartworm tests and monthly preventatives.   We require the following:

  1. All pets in the home must be spayed or neutered.
  2. If your pet is not up to date on vaccines, please do not submit the application until you have scheduled an appointment with the vet to get your pets current on their vaccines.

  • 4.  Be sure to call your Vet(s), giving them permission to speak with us.
  • 5.  We may need to do a home visit prior to approving your application, or post-adoption.

The Adoption Process

THE ADOPTION: We do not operate like a traditional animal shelter. There are three ways to adopt from us:

  1. The first is to meet, and then adopt, one of our dogs in living in one of our foster homes. This meeting can be scheduled by our adoption coordinator. If we, you and the pet in which you are interested feel like you'd be a good fit for each other, you can then complete an adoption application.  Once approved, our adoption coordinator will set-up a date & time for you to pick up your pet.
  2. The second option is to to complete an adoption application, then attend one of our "Adoption Days" on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month at our facility, or at an adoption event being held somewhere in the community. Approved adopters may meet and then take their new pup home from that event.
  3. The third option is to visit us during one of our "Adoption Days", meet the adoptable pets at that event and fall in love.  In this case, you will not be able to take your new pet home that day, rather, we will ask you to complete an adoption application, and the pet will return to its foster home until we can complete the approval process.  Once approved, we will contact you and make arrangements for your pet to be picked up or delivered to you.

As an adopter, you are an extension of the rescue process. Too many pets end up in shelters or back in rescue because their humans were not prepared for the commitment and responsibility of a dog or cat. The application process takes a little time, because we do check vet references, personal references and complete a home visit prior to approving an application.  The animals' physical and emotional needs are our highest priority!

Before filling out an application, please evaluate your ability to train, exercise, and care for this pet (financially and otherwise), for the span of its lifetime. Their life depends on it!

Applications are not necessarily taken as “first come first serve”. We are looking for the best match for each pet.  We do not sell our pets, we place them in loving fur-ever homes.  The adoption fee rarely covers the veterinary expenses that we have been incurred to ensure the pet is as healthy as possible.
